A complete application for admission to the FCCS graduate program must contain these materials:

Applicants are required to take the GRE Aptitude Test (Verbal, Quantitative and Analytical portions).

The applicant should arrange to have GRE scores sent to:

If graduate work has been taken at other institutions, a higher average in work at the graduate level is expected.

  3. Letters of Recommendation: The applicant should arrange for three recent letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the School of Human Ecology. Recommendations should be written by faculty members or others qualified to judge the applicant’s potential for graduate work in human ecology.

  4. Graduate School Application Form: The form for admission to the Graduate School should be completed carefully and fully. Please note that the personal statement section is often used to assess the students’ fit with the program. The Graduate School Application form is available online at http://www.lsu.edu/gradapply

  5. English Language Competency: Graduate School regulations state that, “All applicants whose native language is not English and who have not completed undergraduate degree requirements at a regionally accredited U.S. college or university are required to submit their TOEFL scores.” Application forms and information about the test may be obtained by writing Educational Testing Service, P.O. Box 955, Princeton, New Jersey 08540 U.S.A. or visiting their website at www.ets.org. This test is administered at various testing centers throughout the world. Applicants should arrange to have TOEFL scores sent directly to the Graduate School.

Applicants seeking financial assistance must submit their completed materials including the application for a Graduate Assistantship which available on the FCCS webpage. Decisions concerning graduate assistantships for the coming academic year are usually made by the division in spring, and the applicants are notified of the results promptly thereafter. Scholarship selections are made in early spring. The scholarship application is also available via our website.

Currently, the amount of graduate assistantship awards is minimum $9,000 for Ph.D. and $8,100 for M.S. for an academic year appointment and $12,000 and $10,200, respectively for fiscal year appointment. In addition to the stipends, tuition is waved for graduate assistants. The amount of the stipend is governed by the number of hours (20 per week) which the graduate assistant devotes to departmental duties. Graduate students in human ecology are also eligible to be nominated for awards made directly by the Graduate School to exceptionally well-qualified graduate students.

Additional Information concerning Graduate School regulations and procedures may be obtained by communicating directly with the Graduate School or by visiting their website at http://gradlsu.gs.lsu.edu

Inquiries concerning graduate study in FCCS—including questions about the status of individual applications—should be directed to the Graduate Coordinator (e-mail: huecgrad@lsu.edu, ph. (225) 578-1730). Delays in processing applications and in notifying applicants of the decisions reached are usually the result of incomplete applications. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that all application materials are completed and received.
